On Saturday, August 2, 2008, over 500 DGA members and guests gathered at the Guild’s Los Angeles Theatre complex for the sixth annual incarnation of Digital Day at the DGA. This year’s theme was "Size Matters: Creating Content for Big and Small Screens," a look at some of the new technologies DGA members will soon have at their disposal. This year's event, entitled Size Matters: Creating Content for Big and Small Screens, drew a crowd to take a look at some of the new technologies DGA members have at their disposal. Attendees were able to join DGA colleagues and other industry professionals for a whole day of learning and networking through seminars, workshops, exhibits, and hands-on demonstrations of cutting-edge technologies.
A Guided Tour of New Internet Entertainment Platforms: What’s Out There and What's Worth Watching
Presented by DGA AD/UPM VFX/Digital Technology Committee Chair Susan Zwerman (VFX Producer: The Guardian, Around the World in 80 Days) and Co-Chair Brian Frankish (Producer: Field of Dreams, Flight of the Intruder), this seminar offered a primer on the ever-growing variety of information and entertainment to be found on the World Wide Web.
Preparing Pitch Packages & Pilots for the Small Screen
Directors Tom Holland (Child's Play, Fright Night) and Neal Israel (Bachelor Party, About a Girl) joined moderator/Special Projects Digital Day subcommittee chair, Director Randal Kleiser (Lovewrecked, Grease) for a look at what it takes to get your project noticed.
Short Stories: The Challenges and Opportunities of Creating Content for the Small Screen
Directors Michael Blieden (Mad TV, Super High Me), Marshall Herskovitz (quarterlife, thirtysomething), Stan Rogow (Gemini Division, Flight 29 Down) and, John Sacret Young (quarterlife, The West Wing) joined Moderator/Director Penelope Spheeris (Wayne’s World, The Decline of Western Civilization I, II, & III) for a discussion about creating original content for the internet.
Working In Virtual Worlds: More Than Fun and Games?
DGA Director-member Demian Lichtenstein (Relentless 3D, 3000 Miles to Graceland), Genkii’s CEO Ken Brady; Equilibrium Entertainment’s Director of Development Jesse Guma, Production Designer Robert De Vico, and Editor Dave Hagen; D.P. Dave Drzewiecki, (CSI, X2); and Strategy, Centric/Agency of Change Managing Partner Jason Stoddard engaged in a discussion about using online virtual worlds as a tool for pre-production.

3D Update: The 3D Pipeline and Workflow
In a conversation moderated by Marty Shindler, CEO of The Shindler Perspective; panelists David Kenneth, Executive Producer, I. E. Effects; Vince Pace, CEO, PACE, Steve Schklair, CEO, 3aility Digital Systems; Editor Paul Martin Smith (Journey to the Center of the Earth, Star Wars: Episode I); and Christian Zak, VP, Independent Feature Services, Technicolor Content Services took a look a what’s required to take 3D from concept to cinema.
3D and the TV Viewing Experience
Real D’s President and Co-Founder Joshua Greer, StereoScope, LLC Producer Bernie Laramie, ETC President and Co-Founder Loren Nielsen, and DDD President and CEO Chris Yewdall, took on the subject of moving 3D into the mainstream media in a discussion moderated by Marty Shindler.

Animation Supervisor Kenn McDonald (Beowulf, Polar Express) and Technical Supervisor Corey Turner (I Am Legend, Monster House) revealed the secrets behind the technique used in their respective projects in a conversation moderated by Senior VFX Producer Buzz Hays (Beowulf, Monster House).
Performance Capture and Motion Capture: Demystifying the Technology and Techniques
Giant Studios Motion Capture Supervisor Matt Madden, Image Metrics Executive Producer Patrick Davenport, Sony Pictures Imageworks Animation Supervisor Marco Marenghi, and Industrial Light and Magic Digital Supervisor Mike Sanders, joined moderator UPM Susan Zwerman in explaining the process of performance caption and motion capture.
