On Saturday, June 28, 2008, the Western AD/UPM/TC Council presented The Role of the UPM, Today and in the Future, in the boardroom of DGA Headquarters in Los Angeles. The breakfast event was designed to give Movies for Television and Feature Film Unit Production Managers tips on how best to stay ahead of the curve in an industry that is constantly changing.
After an informal networking breakfast and opening comments by Western AD/UPM/TC Council Chair Cleve Landsberg and UPM Committee Co-Chairs Marie Cantin and Dwight Williams, the participating UPMs broke into discussion groups that were moderated by members of the Council’s UPM Committee. The groups covered topics that ranged from what issues the DGA and/or the UPM Committee should address on behalf of UPMs, to what effects New Media might have on the category. Later, all the groups came together to share the key discussion points, which were then explored in an open forum.
