Second AD and Commercial Committee members gathered for their annual brunch meeting at Guild headquarters in Los Angeles on May 31, 2008. The get-together was an opportunity for members in this category to learn more about their craft, their Guild, and to meet and network with their peers.
Following greetings from Western AD/UPM/TC Council Chair Cleve Landsberg, Commercial Committee member Jeff Tuttle spoke to the attendees about the committee’s function and operations. Tuttle was followed by 2nd AD Committee Co-Chair Tim Engle, who gave a similar report, as well as a recap of the recent DGA Negotiations.
1st AD Bob Lewis informed the gathering about the safety training offered to Guild members via the Directors Guild-Producer Training Plan, along with the Contract Services Administration Trust Fund. The the attendees were introduced to Sara Kahn from Streetlights, a nonprofit job training, job placement and mentoring program that provides entertainment industry employment opportunities for inner city youth.
After the presentations in the DGA Boardroom, the attendees broke into smaller groups to attend special training sessions on working in commercial production, moderated by Tuttle; and working in Single Camera entertainment moderated by 2nd AD Committee Co-Chair Jennie O’Keefe. After these sessions, everybody came together again for a discussion on ways to find work in other fields led by 2nd AD & Commercial Committee member John Elmore, before ending the day with an informal networking session.
