On Saturday, April 26, 2008, DGA members filled the Los Angeles headquarters boardroom as the Western AD/UPM/TC Council’s AD/UPM Mentor Committee presented the seminar Meet the 2007 DGA Award-Winning & Nominated ADs & UPMs.

This fifth annual event featured panelists Betsy Magruder, 1st AD of the Coen Brothers’ DGA and Academy Award-winning feature No Country for Old Men; UPM John J. Kelly and 1st AD David Webb from Sean Penn’s feature Into the Wild; 2nd AD Jenny Nolan from Paul Thomas Anderson’s feature film There Will Be Blood; 1st AD Linda Montanti from Jon Avnet’s mini-series The Starter Wife; 1st AD Michael Zimbrich from Mikael Salomon’s movie for television The Company; UPM Wayne Carmona and 1st AD Gary Goldman of David Nutter’s comedy award-nominated Entourage episode “The Resurrection”; and 1st AD Thomas Smith and 2nd AD Kate Greenberg of Nicolai Fuglsig’s DGA Award-winning JC Penney commercial “It’s Magic.” 2008 Frank Capra Award recipient Liz Ryan served as moderator.

Following introductions by Council Chair Cleve Landsberg and Mentor Committee Chair Randy Turrow, the panelists discussed their work and answered questions from the audience on subjects including: The Interview Process, Pre-Production and Production.
