The first was a screening of Antonioni’s Blow-Up, which took place on September 19, 2007. The second screening took place on October 24th and featured Bergman’s Fanny and Alexander (1982).
Fanny and Alexander explores the lives of two children in the year after the death of their beloved father, and what occurs when their mother marries a strict clergyman. The film was awarded four of the six Oscars for which it was nominated, including Best Foreign Language Film. Bergman was honored in 1990 with the DGA Lifetime Achievement Award.
Following a welcome by Global Cinema Sub-Committee Co-Chair Victoria Hochberg, Director Agnieszka Holland (Copying Beethoven) spoke to the audience about Bergman’s influence on her and her generation of filmmakers.
