Digital Day 2007: The Future of the Future

On Saturday, July 28, 2007, some 555 DGA members and guests gathered at the Guild's Los Angeles Theatre complex for the fifth annual installment of Digital Day at the DGA. This year's theme was "The Future of the Future: What's Next in Digital?," a look at some of the new technologies DGA members have at their disposal. Here are photos of the presentations, demos and panels that made up the day.

 

The morning began as DGA members arrived at the Guild's Los Angeles headquarters and were greeted by exhibits and hands-on demonstrations that continued throughout the day.

Working on Virtual Sets

The Working on Virtual Sets seminar presented case studies of both low- and high-budget productions.

New Developments in 3D

The New Developments in 3D seminar was presented in two parts with samples of the latest achievements in 3D technology.

Cutting Edge Apps

Cutting Edge Apps explored the latest digital techniques in a multi-part seminar.

The Illusionists' Assistant --The Magic of Today's Digital Toolbox covered techniques for specialized image processing.

The Creative Impact of Working in Digital

The Creative Impact of Working in Digital panel explored how choosing to work in digital formats affects the directorial process.

Desktop Editing

Desktop Editing covered the latest in online editing technologies.

The Digital Workflow --Capture to D.I.

The Digital Workflow --Capture to D.I. panel discussed low-budget and high-budget DI processes used in the making of features and television programs.

Pre-Visualization

The Pre-Visualization seminar explored the latest developments in the PreVis Toolkit.

Digital Preservation

The Digital Preservation panel discussed the process of saving today's works for tomorrow's audiences.

Choosing A Format

Choosing A Format covered the latest options in DV, MiniDV, HDV, HD, and the RED camera.

The Living Room of the Future

The Living Room of the Future offered a glimpse of how media will be viewed in tomorrow's home.
