DGA Participates in Sixth Annual Tribeca Film Festival

In its sixth annual celebration of film, music, and culture, from Tuesday April 25, through Sunday May 6, 2007, the Tribeca Film Festival (TFF) continued its mission to assist filmmakers to reach the broadest possible audience, enable the international film community and the general public to experience the power of film, and to promote New York City as a major filmmaking center.

A signature sponsor of the TFF, the DGA hosted a mixer for the filmmakers on Thursday, April 26, at the Target Tribeca Filmmaker Lounge. The event was designed to acquaint non-member directors with the Guild and featured remarks from DGA director member Gary Winick (Charlotte’s Web) and DGA President Michael Apted (Amazing Grace). It was later announced that DGA director member Alex Gibney’s Taxi to the Darkside took the festival’s Best Documentary Feature award.

Created by co-founders Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff to help economically and culturally revitalize Lower Manhattan following the terrorist attacks of 9/11. This year’s TFF presented 159 features and 88 short films from 47 countries, as well as panel discussions, filmmaker events, and gala premieres of major studio releases to the residents and visitors of Lower Manhattan. In its first five years, TBFF attracted over 1.5 million attendees from the US and abroad and created more than $325 million in economic activity for New York City.
