Brunch for VCFF Filmmakers

From May 3 - 10, 2007 the DGA and three other venues played host to VC Filmfest 2007: The Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (VCFF). The festival launched a celebration of Asian Pacific Heritage Month with a slate of over 150 films and videos from both Asian Pacific American and Asian international directors.

As part of its continuing outreach to independent filmmakers, on Friday, May 4, 2007, the DGA hosted a brunch for directors participating in VCFF. The event was attended by 50 VCFF directors, who heard DGA Asian American Committee (AAC) co-chairs Sandy Tung and Wendy Ikeguchi speak about the advantages of Guild membership.

On Saturday, May 5, the Guild also treated VCFF filmmakers to a special one-on-one discussion between DGA Director-members Justin Lin (Better Luck Tomorrow, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift) and Wayne Wang (The Joy Luck Club, Chan Is Missing). Their discussion gave the audience an inside look at the directors’ creative process, and the opportunity to learn how they each made the move from ethnic-based independent cinema to mainstream studio projects.

The DGA has been a proud sponsor of VCFF for 12 years.
