Aspiring filmmakers were given a unique opportunity to hear directors in film and television discuss how they started their careers and share information on DGA membership, councils, committees and benefits at the DGA Student Open House on Saturday, November 11, 2006.
After a welcome by Special Projects Academic Outreach Sub-Committee Chair Randal Kleiser, the students from local film schools heard DGA Field Representative Lisa Layer speak about the DGA's commitment to independent filmmakers, and Directors Guild-Producer Training Plan Administrator Janet Dyer explain the workings of the Assistant Directors Training Program. There was also a special screening of the DGA short, Directing: How To Get There. Then Kleiser moderated a panel discussion with directors Patricia Cardoso (Real Women Have Curves), Leonard Garner, Jr. (According to Jim), and DGA Documentary Award-winning director Chuck Braverman (High School Boot Camp).
