Director Q&As in Los Angeles & New York

During the final months of 2006, DGA members in New York and Los Angeles will have the opportunity to attend particular member screenings followed by Q&As with the films’ directors.

Darren Aronofsky: The Fountain

In the DGA’s Los Angeles theatre, Director Darren Aronofsky discussed the making of The Fountain and how he weaved three parallel stories about love, death, spirituality, and the fragility of our existence in this world over the span of one thousand years. DGA Special Projects Committee Chair Jeremy Kagan (Crown Heights) served as moderator.

Emilio Estevez: Bobby

Director Emilio Estevez was joined onstage in Los Angeles by moderator David Nutter (Band of Brothers) to discuss his film about the assassination of U.S. Senator Robert F. Kennedy, in the Ambassador Hotel on June 6, 1968.

Todd Field: Little Children

Director Todd Field’s discussion of his film about a group of young couples whose lives intersect on the playgrounds, town pools and streets of their small community was moderated by director Sam Raimi (Spider-Man) in Los Angeles and Michael Moore (Fahrenheit 9/11) in New York.

Stephen Frears: The Queen

Director Stephen Frears talked about his behind-the-scenes glimpse of the struggle between Queen Elizabeth II and British Prime Minister Tony Blair following the death of Princess Diana with Director/Critic Richard Schickel in Los Angeles.

Anthony Minghella: Breaking and Entering

Director Anthony Minghella discussed his film about a young architect prompted to re-evaluate his life through his dealings with a young Muslim thief who broke into his office. Director Sydney Pollack (The Interpreter) who was also the producer of the film, served as the moderator in both New York and Los Angeles.

Steve Zaillian: All the King’s Men

Director Steve Zaillian spoke to the Los Angeles audience about his political drama regarding an idealistic ‘common man’ southern politician who slowly becomes corrupted by the system. DGA Special Projects Committee Chair Jeremy Kagan (Crown Heights) served as moderator.
