The films were presented by the Screen Directors Guild of Ireland (SDGI) as part of the International Association of English Speaking Directors Organizations (IAESDO) Screening Series. The DGA hosts the series as part of its support for IAESDO, an organization that also represents five other director’s organizations in New Zealand, Australia, the UK, and Canada.
The IAESDO Screening Series is based on the DGA’s own successful model, the Director's Finder Series, which spotlights undistributed low budget and/or independent feature films directed by DGA members. The DGA has invited the members of IAESDO to select never-released films for screening in the US.
The fourth feature film presented in the IAESDO series, Small Engine Repair is a darkly comic tale set in a small logging community in the North of Ireland where a man named Doug is having a rough time. He can't find a job, his wife has kicked him out and his old nemesis is just out of prison and back in town. With nothing left to lose, Doug finally gets the nerve to pursue his dream of being a country singer by taking the first step of performing one of his songs at the local tavern.
Following the screening, Heery and the film’s producer Tristan Orphen-Lynch participated in a Q&A session moderated by DGA director-member Paul Quinn.
