On Thursday, September 14, 2006, the DGA's African American Steering Committee, Asian American Committee, Latino Committee and Women’s Steering Committee presented the panel discussion “Making Your Directing Reel Great!” in the Boardroom of the Guild's Los Angeles Headquarters.
Following a an introduction by Reel Workshop Committee member Livia Perez-Borrero, and remarks from Reel Workshop Committee member Carole Leigh Podell, DGA members were treated to a discussion of how to put together and properly utilize one of the industry’s best calling cards, the director’s reel.
The panelists included DGA Award-winning director Rod Holcomb; Director/Executive Producer Brooke Kennedy; Bruce Evans, Vice President, Current Series, NBC Entertainment; Andrew Hersh, founder Thrive Entertainment; Gayla Nethercott, founder Nethercott Associates Agency; and Mike Woodlief, television director agent, Paradigm. Director Rick Telles, Co-Chair of DGA Latino Committee, served as moderator.
In a demonstration utilizing a reel provided by director member Lisa France, Kennedy showed how edits can be made to maximize the potential of any director’s reel.
