Robinson, who has a overall producing first look deal with Disney and is currently a Director, Writer and Producer on the Showtime series The L Word dispensed practical advice on how to pitch projects and talk with executives. Robinson suggested researching the executives to find out what they like and to try to talk about what you have in common. She felt it was important for directors to learn to speak the language executives and producers speak in order to come to them from a position of strength.
Robinson also advised directors to not look for an agent until they had something to sell. She said if you have some buzz created about your name and have material, agents will come looking for you.
Finally, Robinson recommended directors to try and make executives and producers feel as though they have discovered them and were responsible for their success so that they feel as though they are vested in the person. Above all else, she emphasized being prepared.
A graduate of Brown University and the film program at NYU, Angela Robinson joined the DGA in 2003.
