Regarded as one of the pioneers of the modern Black film movement, Hudlin’s directing credits include House Party, Boomerang, The Great White Hype, and Serving Sarah. He also directed the pilot of Chris Rock's new hit sitcom Everybody Hates Chris. Although he was named President of Entertainment for BET in June 2005, Hudlin told the audience that he still considers himself a director foremost and was looking forward to including more scripted content in BET’s programming. He also spoke about using his position in service to the community as in the recent special he helped organize, Saving Ourselves: The BET Relief Telethon, which raised more than $13 million for the aid and relief to millions of Hurricane Katrina victims. Hudlin was also mindful of paying due respect to the African American filmmakers who came before him such as the late Richard Pryor. He lead the production on the only special on the life of of the legendary comedian broadcast on any network. Hudlin joined the DGA in 1991.
