On December 8, 2005, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) and the Directors Guild of America presented a tribute honoring the late Robert E. Wise, Past President of the DGA and AMPAS.

The event took place at AMPAS’ Samuel Goldwyn Theatre and featured testimonials from co-workers and friends such as actors Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, DGA Secretary-Treasurer Gil Cates, DGA Board Member John Rich, and Director Steven Spielberg. The evening also included clips from Wise’s films: West Side Story, Executive Suite, The Sound of Music, The Day the Earth Stood Still, and a viewing of the tribute film Robert Wise… In His Own Words.
