An Evening with Jay Chandrasekhar

On Thursday, August 11, 2005, the DGA Asian American Committee presented An Evening with Jay Chandrasekhar.

The event was held following the Los Angeles membership screening of Chandrasekhar’s The Dukes of Hazzard. The film is a big screen envisioning of the popular ‘70s television show, starring Seann William Scott, Johnny Knoxville and Jessica Simpson as cousins Bo, Luke and Daisy Duke, Willie Nelson as Uncle Jesse, Burt Reynolds as the corrupt and evil town commissioner Boss Hogg, and the Duke Boys’ infamous orange 1969 Dodge Charger, “The General Lee.” After the screening, the committee hosted a Q&A on the making of the film with Chandrasekhar moderated by DGA Director member Babu Subramaniam.

Chandrasekhar also serves as the director of the Broken Lizard comedy group and prior to directing The Dukes of Hazzard, he directed, co-wrote, and starred in three Broken Lizard feature films: Club Dread, Super Troopers, and the micro-budgeted Puddle Cruiser. In addition to his feature film work, Chandrasekhar has directed various single camera television shows, including Arrested Development, Oliver Beene, Andy Richter Controls the Universe and Undeclared. A graduate of Colgate University, Chandrasekhar also completed the New York University - Tisch School Film Production program. He joined the DGA in 2001.
