An Evening with Jim Jarmusch

On Wednesday, August 3, 2005, the DGA hosted an evening with indie filmmaker Jim Jarmusch, the director of such films as Coffee and Cigarettes, Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai, Year of the Horse, Dead Man, Night on Earth, and Mystery Train (1989) at the Guild’s New York Theatre. Held in association with the American Museum of the Moving Image, the event included a screening of Jarmusch’s latest film, Broken Flowers. Broken Flowers features an all-star cast headed up by 2003 Oscar nominee Bill Murray as Don Johnston, a serial dating bachelor who is forced to examine his relationships with women after getting dumped by his latest girlfriend and also receiving an anonymous pink letter informing him that he has a son who may be looking for him. To unravel the mystery Don sets out on a cross-country trip of discovery that leads him back to the doors of several of his old flames.

Following the screening, Moviephone AOL’s Kevin Polowy moderated a discussion about the making of the film with Jarmusch, who joined the Guild in 2004.
