On June 15, the Eastern Independent Directors Committee (IDC) hosted a reception for DGA member and non-member directors who work in independent film at the Guild New York Boardroom. DGA National Vice President Steven Soderbergh led a lively discussion directed at the non-member filmmaker guests.  He began by asking how many of those filmmakers proposed working under a DGA agreement to a producer who resisted?  A conversation which included handling situations like this and the many benefits of membership in the DGA ensued between the non-member directors, and DGA IDC members including Soderbergh, Raymond DeFelitta, Griffin Dunne, Alison Thompson, Alex Gibney, Rebecca Miller, and Nancy Savoca.
