The Annual DGA Golf Tournament is a charity event created to raise money for the Directors Guild Foundation (DGF) an organization dedicated to assisting DGA members facing difficult times. In 2001 it was renamed in honor of long time DGF Chair Howard W. Koch who served the members and the film community from 1983 until 2001. In 2004, the golf tournament was joined by the first ever DGA Tennis Tournament. This year’s golf tournament was held at the prestigious Wilshire Country Club located in the heart Los Angeles’ Hancock Park district, and the tennis tourney took place at the neighboring Los Angeles Tennis Club,

Following a day of golf and tennis, DGA members, tournament sponsors and guests celebrated with an awards reception at the Wilshire Country Club.

Thanking the players for their participation in the day’s activities, DGA President Michael Apted said, “I congratulate each of you on your hard day at play on the courts and on the greens. This important work could not be done without your support and I am proud to announce that due to your generosity and support of today’s tournaments, we have grossed more than $150,000 on behalf of the Foundation — the largest amount in Foundation history.”

Pulling double-duty for Golf/Tennis Tournament Co-Chair Mel Damski who was busy on the set, Co-Chair Michael Zinberg addressed the players at the closing reception. “Welcome to the temple of pain and pleasure. The greens and rough at Wilshire, the courts at LA Tennis Club,” joked Zinberg. “I am here to tell you that the players had a good time, the competition was fierce and, I am pleased to report, no serious physical injuries were sustained.”

Zinberg then expressed thanks to his Co-chair Damski, DGA National Executive Director Jay D. Roth, the Wilshire Country Club and the Los Angeles Tennis Club.
