Meet the Interviewer: Ricardo Méndez Matta

Ricardo Méndez Matta is a director and assistant director of films and episodic television. He has directed episodes of the series Weird Science, Nash Bridges, Touched by an Angel and The District, and co-wrote, co-produced and directed the feature film Ladrones y Mentirosos (Thieves and Liars), which was the official Puerto Rican entry to the 2007 Academy Awards, won a Best Director prize at the Phoenix Film Festival, and was broadcast by HBO Latino. For his directorial work on Nash Bridges, he was twice nominated for ALMA Awards.

Among Méndez Matta’s many credits as an Assistant Director are the popular television series L.A. Law, Weird Science, Cane, Nash Bridges, United States of Tara and Hart of Dixie and the feature films Price of Glory (2000), Bread and Roses (2000) and A Better Life (2011). He has also served as First A.D. on the mini-series Trade Winds (1993) and movies for television including Killer Instinct (1988), Extreme Close-Up (1990), and Ali: An American Hero (2000).

Ricardo Méndez Matta has served as co-chair of the Guild’s Latino Committee, and twice as chair of the DGA-Producers’ Assistant Directors Training Program.
