Born and raised in Los Angeles, Dan Attias forwent law school to pursue a career in entertainment. Initially focusing on acting, he eventually enrolled in UCLA's Cinema & Media Studies master program, earning an M.F.A. in film production. After graduating from the Guild's Assistant Directors Training Program, he worked as an assistant director for Steven Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppola, Wim Wenders and Sam Fuller. Following the success of his short film, Leon's Case (1982), he made the transition from assistant director to director with the feature film, Silver Bullet, in 1985.

In addition to his feature, Attias' directorial credits include episodes of Tell Me Lies, The Americans, Deadwood, True Blood, Lost, Big Love, The Killing, True Detective, The Walking Dead, Bloodline, Friday Night Lights, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Billions, Entourage, The Boys, and Tell Me Lies.

He has received the DGA Award for Outstanding Direction of Dramatic Television for The Wire, "Transitions" and has been nominated for episodes of The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Homeland and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. He has also received Emmy Award nominations for his comedy direction on Entourage.

Attias has been a DGA member since 1980 and serves on the Television Creative Rights Committee.
