VH261 Hero

Born and raised in Toledo, Ohio, Carol Green was watching Annie Hall at a movie house in Pittsburgh, where she was majoring in theater at Carnegie Mellon, when she noticed the credit “DGA Trainee.” She called the Guild, inquired about the credit, applied to the West Coast Assistant Directors Training Program, and was accepted. Upon graduating and with the full support of her parents, she moved to Los Angeles to begin her career as an assistant director.

As a Trainee, Green has worked on Hill Street Blues, Rich and Famous (1981), and Tron (1981), to name a few. As an assistant director, she has worked on features including Gremlins (Joe Dante, 1984), Johnny Dangerously (Amy Heckerling, 1985), Pretty in Pink (Howard Deutch, 1986), and Scary Movie 2 (Keenen Ivory Wayans, 2001). In episodic television, she has worked as a first assistant director on Parenthood, I’ll Fly Away, Crossing Jordan, House, Ugly Betty, Private Practice, Franklin & Bash, American Horror Story, P-Valley, Twenties, Mayans MC, and Abbot Elementary; as well as the pilots for Snoops (1999), Hellcats (2010), None of the Above (2015), Heathers (2018), and Home Economics (2020), among others.

She has been a Guild member since 1981.
