Los Angeles — The entire DGA community mourns the tragic and untimely passing of Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner. Rob was a giant whose work helped define modern American cinema.
Over a remarkable career spanning five decades, Rob directed iconic and enduring films including his feature debut This Is Spinal Tap (1984). He later directed important films across genres, including The Princess Bride (1987), When Harry Met Sally... (1989), Misery (1990), Stand by Me (1986), A Few Good Men (1992), and The American President (1995). He recently released Spinal Tap II: The End Continues (2025).
A member of the DGA since 1974, Reiner was recognized by his peers with multiple DGA Award nominations for Outstanding Directorial Achievement for Stand by Me (1986), When Harry Met Sally... (1989), and A Few Good Men (1992). He was an engaged and respected member of the Guild and a steadfast champion for the art of filmmaking.
Reiner’s films were marked by humor, intelligence, emotional depth, and for an abiding respect for actors and audiences alike.
Beyond his filmography, he was admired for his mentorship and love of his craft, his civic engagement, and for being a principled voice in the creative community.
He will be remembered as an iconic filmmaker and a valued member of the DGA family.
