75th Annual DGA Awards: Judd Apatow Returning as Host

January 19, 2023

Los Angeles – Today, Directors Guild of America Awards Chair Beth McCarthy-Miller announced that Judd Apatow will return to host the 75th Annual DGA Awards, which will take place on February 18, 2023, at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. This will be Apatow’s fourth visit to the DGA Awards podium, as he previously hosted the 70th DGA Awards in 2018, the 72nd DGA Awards in 2020, and the 74th DGA Awards in 2022.

“I’m thrilled that we landed Judd for this special anniversary DGA Awards show 75 years in the making.  Never underestimate the power of a Chipotle gift card,” said McCarthy-Miller. “Judd’s a comedy genius that can be counted upon to keep things moving — and as host, he doesn’t have to worry about getting played off the stage.”

“I am so honored to host the DGA awards for the fourth time.  If I was ever nominated, I would stop,” said Apatow.

Judd Apatow is one of the most prolific comedic minds in the industry — having directed, produced, and written many of the biggest comedy films and hit TV shows of the last two decades.

In March 2022, Netflix released the comedy feature The Bubble which Apatow directed, produced, and co-wrote with Pam Brady. The star-studded cast included Karen Gillan, Keegan-Michael Key, Maria Bakalova, Leslie Mann, Iris Apatow, Pedro Pascal, and David Duchovny. The Bubble followed a group of actors and actresses stuck inside a pandemic bubble at a hotel attempting to film a movie. Apatow also co-directed, with Michael Bonfiglio, and produced the Emmy®-award-winning HBO Documentary Films two-part documentary, George Carlin’s American Dream.

Recently, Apatow produced the romantic comedy, Bros, for Universal, starring, and co-written by, Billy Eichner. The critically-acclaimed film was released on September 30, 2022, and it followed two gay men with commitment problems attempting a relationship and is the first major studio film to feature an all-LGBTQ+ principal cast.

Upcoming, Apatow produced Please Don’t Destroy’s buddy comedy for Universal co-starring Bowen Yang and Meg Stalter, set for release on August 18, 2023. He will also be producing a semi-autobiographical comedy about writers and comedians Kenny and Keith Lucas (The Lucas Bros.) and their lives as identical twins in Newark, New Jersey, in which they will star and co-write.
