Mary Rae Thewlis Elected DGA Fourth Vice President, Other National Board Changes Announced

Veteran UPM Mary Rae Thewlis was elected as the Guild’s new Fourth Vice President during the May 6, 2017 DGA National Board meeting in Los Angeles. DGA Award-winning Director Ron Howard was also elected to the National Board and Director Eric Stoltz elected as an Alternate National Board member.

The 2016 recipient of the DGA’s Frank Capra Achievement Award, Thewlis replaces Fourth Vice President Rosemary Rodriguez who resigned the position after relocating to the West Coast (per Guild bylaws the Fourth Vice President must be an East Coast resident). A DGA member since 1993, Thewlis has served on the National Board since 2005 as well as serving six consecutive terms in various elected positions on the Eastern AD/UPM Council including Chair and 1st Vice Chair. She also served on the DGA Negotiations Committee, is a Trustee of the DGA Pension and Health Plan, the New York Assistant Directors Training Program and the DGA Foundation.

 
Ron HowardRon Howard

Howard, a DGA member since 1978, made his directorial debut in 1977 comedy feature Grand Theft Auto. He won the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in feature film for Apollo 13 (1995) and again for A Beautiful Mind (2001). He was also nominated for his features Cocoon (1985) and Frost/Nixon (2008). Howard was previously elected as a Alternate of the DGA National Board in 2017.

 
Eric StoltzEric Stoltz

Stoltz began his directorial career with the Emmy-winning children’s special My Horrible Year! His other directing credits include episodes of Boston Legal, Glee, Madam Secretary and the upcoming feature Confessions of a Teenage Jesus Jerk. He joined the DGA in 2000.
