Spotlight on Directors Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini

February 22, 2023 A Focus on Women Committee Event

On February 22, the Focus on Women Committee (FOWC) hosted a discussion with DGA Award-nominated Directors Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini. Following a viewing of clips from their feature American Splendor and an episode of Succession, Berman and Pulcini engaged in a Q&A about their careers moderated by FOWC Co-Chair Maggie Greenwald. They spoke about how they became a directing team, their first projects together and how they transitioned into episodic directing. Following the moderated portion of the conversation, the panelists fielded questions from the audience.

Berman and Pulcini’s directorial credits include the features American Splendor, Girl Most Likely, Things Heard & Seen and The Nanny Diaries; the documentaries Off the Menu: The Last Days of Chasen’s and Hello, He Lied & Other Truths from the Hollywood Trenches; and episodes of Fleishman Is in Trouble, Night Sky and Shameless. They were nominated for the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Dramatic Series for their 2021 episode of the series Succession, “Succession: Lion in the Meadow.”

Berman and Pulcini have been DGA members since 2006 and Berman currently serves as an Alternate on the Eastern Directors Council.

About the Committee:

Originally a sub-committee of the Eastern Directors Council, in 2020 the Focus on Women Committee (FOWC) was designated an official and permanent committee of the DGA National Board for women members residing in the Eastern Region. The Committee would like to remind members that while their events are designed with a special focus on women directors, all DGA members are welcome to attend.
