A woman uncovers an unsettling truth about her fertility doctor in Director John Leeās pregnancy horror movie, False Positive.
Leeās film tells the story of Lucy (Ilana Glazer) and Adrian (Justin Theroux), who after months of trying and failing to get pregnant, believe they have found their dream doctor in the illustrious Dr. Hindle (Pierce Brosnan). But after becoming pregnant with a healthy baby girl, Lucy begins to notice something sinister through Hindleās gleaming charm.
On June 27, after the DGA screening in New York, Lee discussed the making of False Positive in a Q&A moderated by Director Sarah-Violet Bliss (Fort Tilden).
During the discussion, Lee spoke about how his television directing experience helped him work around the challenges of shooting on a limited budget.
āYou have to be practical or youāre just never going to actually get something done or youāre going to take five years to make something, which is a different sort of torture,ā said Lee. āI think a lot of that does come from television which I think is a little bit more practical. Youāre in New York City and thereās like 40 people who just wonāt move. āLetās shoot.ā Nope theyāre theyāre throwing a fit. āOkay, letās change the scene.ā Itās just a real thing you have to do.ā
Leeās other directorial credits include the feature film Pee-weeās Big Holiday; and episodes of Search Party, Broad City, Inside Amy Schumer, Wonder Showzen and Neon Joe, Werewolf Hunter. He has been a DGA member since 2010.
