A couple must deal with their troubled relationship in the aftermath of a traumatic accident in Director Tara Miele’s romance-drama, Wander Darkly.
In Miele’s film, new parents Adrienne (Sienna Miller) and Matteo (Diego Luna) experience a disaster that leaves them in a surreal state of being and takes them on a disorienting journey through their past and their uncertain future.
On February 21, Miele discussed the making of Wander Darkly in a DGA Virtual Q&A moderated by Director Rachel Lee Goldenberg (Unpregnant).
During the conversation, Miele spoke about cutting between different memories in a single scene to maintain the structure of the film. “I was there that day. It always had to feel as grounded as possible. I never wanted to see a huge big surrealistic lighting shift. That was a very fine line that we were constantly negotiating.”
Miele’s other directorial credits include the feature films Starving in Suburbia, Gone Missing and The Lake Effect and the movie for television Lost Boy. She is also well known for the viral video Meet a Muslim which she created to combat Islamophobia and directed the pilot, Green Arrow and The Canaries, and episodes of Batwoman, Arrow and Hawaii Five-0. Miele has been a DGA member since 2014 and serves as an Alternate Co-Chair of the Women’s Steering Committee.
