Director Andrea Berloff discusses The Kitchen

August 4, 2019 A DGA Q&A in Los Angeles

Three women take over their incarcerated husbands’ criminal empire in Director Andrea Berloff’s crime-drama, The Kitchen.

Based on the comic book series, Berloff’s film tells the story of Kathy (Melissa McCarthy), Claire (Elisabeth Moss) and Ruby (Tiffany Haddish), three 1978 Hell’s Kitchen housewives whose mobster husbands are sent to prison by the FBI. Forced to take matters into their own hands, they discover they are unexpectedly adept at mob life including running the gangs and taking out the competition.

Following the DGA membership screening in Los Angeles on August 4, Berloff sat down with Director Lisa Cholodenko (The Kids Are All Right) to discuss the making of The Kitchen.

The Kitchen is Berloff’s directorial debut. She became a DGA member in 2018.
