On September 16, Assistant Directors and Unit Production Managers gathered in the Guild’s New York boardroom for another installment of the Eastern AD/UPM Council’s Member Education Hour. Presented by the Council’s Member Education Committee, the Member Education Hour is an opportunity for members to learn more about matters important to their category, which they did in the current session, Everything You Always Wanted to Know About the Qualifications Lists (But Were Afraid to Ask). During this informative afternoon, DGA staff and the QL administrators sought to de mystify the process and qualifications for placement and provide answers to frequently asked questions.
After an introduction by Member Education Committee Chair Michael Reichman, DGA Senior Field Rep Bart Daudelin gave a general overview of the Qualifications Lists by explaining what the QL is, what it does for the membership and how it applies under the DGA agreements. Qualifications Lists administrators Janice Gambino and Sandra Forman discussed how their respective organizations administer placement on Basic Agreement QL and the Commercial QL and 2nd AD/QL Review Committee Chair Les McDonough led a conversation with them about what members can expect when submitting a "book" to be placed or upgraded on a QL. The presentation ended with a Q&A session where the attendees could have their questions addressed by the experts.
The Member Education Hour attendees were also invited to stay for the monthly Eastern AD/UPM Council meeting, which followed.
