Director Peter Farrelly discusses Green Book

An unlikely friendship develops between two men during a trip through the racially segregated South in Director Peter Farrelly’s new comedic-drama, Green Book.

Farrelly’s film tells the story of Tony Lip (Viggo Mortensen), an Italian-American a bouncer from the Bronx who is hired to drive Dr. Don Shirley (Mahershala Ali), a world-class African-American pianist on a concert tour from Manhattan to the Deep South in 1962. During the trip, they must rely on "The Green Book" to guide them to the few establishments that were safe for African-Americans. As they are confronted with racism and danger, as well as unexpected humanity and humor, the two men develop a bond that surprises them both.

Following the DGA membership screening in Los Angeles on November 18, Farrelly sat down with Director Dan Gilroy (Roman J. Israel, Esq.) to discuss the making of Green Book. He also discussed the film in a conversation moderated by Director McCarthy (13 Reasons Why) following the DGA screening in New York on November 11.

In addition to Green Book, Farrelly’s credits include the feature films Dumb and Dumber To, Hall Pass, The Heartbreak Kid, Shallow Hal, There's Something About Mary, Kingpin and Dumb and Dumber (all with his brother Bobby Farrelly); as well as solo projects including the movie for television Cuckoo; the pilot for the series Unhitched; and episodes of the series Loudermilk. Peter Farrelly has been a DGA member since 1994.
