Director Susanne Bier discusses Bird Box

December 12, 2018 A DGA Q&A in New York

A mother must find a way to escort her children to safety through a dangerous new world in Director Susanne Bier’s sci-fi drama, Bird Box.

Bier’s film takes place after an unseen force has decimated Earth’s human population. The only thing the survivors know for sure is if you see it, you die. Against these odds a woman (Sandra Bullock) and her children take a perilous journey through the woods and down a river to get to a place that may offer sanctuary. But in order to stay alive, they must complete the trip while blindfolded.

Following the DGA membership screening in New York on December 12, Bier sat down with Director Alison Maclean (The Rehearsal) to discuss the making of Bird Box.

In addition to Bird Box, Bier’s credits include the feature films Serena, A Second Chance, Love Is All You Need, In a Better World, Things We Lost in the Fire, and After the Wedding. She won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Limited Series, Movie or a Dramatic Special for her 2016 series The Night Manager. Bier has been a DGA member since 2006.
