Directors Jonathan Baker & Josh Baker discuss Kin

September 4, 2018 A DGA Q&A in Los Angeles

An ex-con and his adopted teenage brother are forced to go on the run with a weapon of mysterious origin in Directors Jonathan Baker & Josh Baker’s new sci-fi thriller, Kin.

Based on their own 2014 short film Bag Man, the Baker brothers’ Kin tells the story of an ex-con named Jimmy (Jack Reynor) and his adopted teenage brother Eli (Myles Truitt) who are forced to flee their home after Jimmy lands in trouble with a local crime boss (James Franco). Complicating matters, Eli has stumbled across a high-tech gun with special powers, making them also the targets of not only the thugs, but also the Feds and two futuristic soldiers who want it back.

Following the DGA membership screening in Los Angeles on September 3, Jonathan & Josh Baker sat down with Director James Ponsoldt (The Circle) to discuss the making of Kin.

Kin is the Baker brothers’ feature debut. In addition to Kin and Bag Man, their other credits include the short films Little Kaiju and Flight. They both joined the DGA in 2007.
