Director Bradley Cooper discusses A Star is Born

October 7, 2018 DGA Q&As in Los Angeles and New York

A classic tale of love, loss and fame gets a new polish in Director Bradley Cooper’s romantic musical drama, A Star is Born.

In the film, Cooper pulls double duty as he also stars as Jackson "Jack"  Maine, a seasoned musician who discovers and falls in love with a struggling singer and actress named Ally (Lady Gaga). Ally has just about given up on her dream to make it big until Jack coaxes her into the spotlight. But as Ally's career begins a meteoric rise, Jack's takes a tumble as his own internal demons of age and alcoholism take their toll.

Following the DGA membership screening in Los Angeles on October 7, Cooper sat down with Director Jason Bateman (Ozark) to discuss the challenges of appearing on both sides of the camera during the making of A Star is Born. Cooper also discussed the film in a conversation moderated by Director Rebecca Miller (Maggie's Plan) following the DGA membership screening in New York on October 3.

A Star is Born is Cooper’s feature directorial debut. He became a DGA member in 2017.
