Director Steven Spielberg discusses The Post

December 17, 2017 DGA Q&As in New York and Los Angeles

A newspaper publisher and an editor take on the U.S. Government when they decide to print a sensational story in Director Steven Spielberg’s new historical drama/political thriller, The Post.

Spielberg’s film reveals how Katharine Graham, the first female publisher of a major American newspaper – The Washington Post – and editor Ben Bradlee risked their careers and their freedom when they decided to print The Pentagon Papers,  Daniel Ellsberg’s exposé of a massive cover-up of government secrets that spanned three decades and four U.S. presidents.

Following the DGA membership screening in New York on December 9, Spielberg sat down with Director Joel Coen (Hail, Caesar!) to discuss the making of The Post. Spielberg also spoke about the film in a conversation moderated by Director Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman) following the DGA membership screening in Los Angeles on December 17.

In addition to The Post, Spielberg’s filmography includes the feature films Sugarland Express, 1941, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Always, Hook, Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park 2, A.I., Minority Report, Catch Me If You Can, The Terminal, War of the Worlds, The Adventures of Tintin: the Secret of the Unicorn, War Horse, Lincoln and Bridge of Spies. He won the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film for The Color Purple, Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan; and was nominated for the DGA Award for Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Raiders of the Lost Ark, E.T.: the Extra-Terrestrial, Empire of the Sun, Amistad and Munich.
