Director Paul Greengrass discusses 22 July

October 14, 2018 DGA Q&As in New York and Los Angeles

The aftermath of Norway's worst terrorist attack is examined in Director Paul Greengrass’ hard-hitting historical drama, 22 July.

Greengrass’ film relives the events of 22 July 2011, when right-wing terrorist Anders Behring Breivik murdered 77 young people attending a Labour Party Youth Camp on Utøya Island outside of Oslo, Norway. The film also uses the lens of one survivor's physical and emotional journey to portray the country's path to healing and reconciliation.

Following the DGA membership screening in New York on October 13, Greengrass sat down with Director Joshua Marston (Come Sunday) to discuss the making of 22 July. Greengrass also discussed the making of the film in a conversation moderated by Director Brian Helgeland (Legend) following the DGA membership screening in Los Angeles on October 14.

In addition to 22 July, Greengrass’ credits include the feature films Jason Bourne, Green Zone, The Bourne Ultimatum, The Bourne Supremacy and Bloody Sunday; and the movies for television The Murder of Stephen Lawrence, The Fix and The Theory of Flight. He was nominated for the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Motion Pictures for his 2013 film Captain Phillips and the Academy Award for Best Director for his 2006 feature United 93. Greengrass has been a DGA member since 2005.
