Jeremy Kagan discusses Shot

September 16, 2017 DGA Q&As in New York and Los Angeles

A single bullet from the gun of a bullied teenager forever changes the lives of three people in Director Jeremy Kagan’s new drama, Shot.

Shot reveals the horrors that take place after a man is accidentally wounded by a frightened teenager. Using multiple screen techniques to capture the incident and its aftermath, Kagan’s drama follows the story in real time as the victim, his wife and the emergency medical personnel fight for his life in the critical hour after the shooting, juxtaposed against the experiences of the teen as he tries to avoid the consequences of his actions. The film then picks up the tale three months into the future where everyone has to face the new realities of their lives.

Following the DGA membership screening in New York on September 16, Kagan sat down with Director Laura Belsey (The Flash) to discuss the making of Shot. Kagan had previously spoken about the film with Director Mick Jackson (Denial) following the DGA membership screening in Los Angeles on September 10.

In addition to Shot, Kagan’s credits include the feature films Golda’s Balcony, The Sting II, The Chosen, Big Man on Campus, By the Sword and The Big Fix; the movies for television Bobbie’s Girl, The Ballad of Lucy Whipple, The Hired Heart, Unwed Father and Roswell; and episodes of the television series Karen Sisco, The Guardian, The West Wing, Resurrection Blvd., Ally McBeal, Picket Fences and the mini-series Taken. In 1996, Kagan won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for his Chicago Hope episode “Leave Of Absence.” He was also nominated for the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Children’s Programs for his 2004 movie for television Crown Heights.

A DGA member since 1972, Kagan has served on the DGA National Board, the Western Directors Council and the DGA Negotiations Committee, and currently serves as the Chair of the DGA Special Projects Committee. In recognition of his extraordinary service to the Guild and its membership, in 2004 Kagan was presented with the DGA’s Robert B. Aldrich Award.
