The Discovery

Charlie McDowell discusses The Discovery

April 7, 2017 A DGA Q&A in Los Angeles

Scientific proof of an afterlife complicates both life and love in Director Charlie McDowell’s new sci-fi thriller, The Discovery.

Set in the near future, McDowell’s film follows the effects of definitive proof of an afterlife following a breakthrough scientific discovery by Dr. Thomas Harbor. As the world wrestles with what this all means, Harbor’s son, who is also struggling with these issues, arrives at his father’s compound where he falls for a woman with a troubled past.

Following the April 7 DGA membership screening in Los Angeles, McDowell sat down with Director Zal Batmanglij (The OA), to discuss the making of The Discovery.

In addition to The Discovery, McDowell’s credits include the feature films The One I Love; the movie for television Untitled Sarah Silverman Project; episodes of the series Dear White People and Silicon Valley; and the short Bye Bye Benjamin. McDowell became a DGA member in 2015.
