2017 Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival

From April 27 – May 4, the 33rd edition of the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (LAAPFF) presented a program of feature films, shorts and videos at various venues around Los Angeles, including the DGA’s Los Angeles Theater complex.

The festival opened with a retrospective look at DGA Director-member Justin Lin’s 2002 feature Better Luck Tomorrow, which is considered a landmark in Asian American cinema. Other DGA participation in LAAPFF included “Directing Horror & Genre” a special panel discussion on April 29 where DGA Asian American Committee Co-Chair Michael Goi (American Horror Story) and Directors Viet Nguyen (iZombie) and Jennifer Phang (The Exorcist) discussed their experiences, their careers and the future of horror and genre films and television in a conversation moderated by DGA Asian American Committee Co-Chair Steven Kung (A Leading Man).

About the Festival

Presented by Visual Communications LAAPFF, hopes to create spaces for connection and add to the dialogues of change. It is a key highlight of the Asian Pacific Heritage Month activities and Southern California’s premier showcase for Asian Pacific cinema. Since 1983, the Festival has presented nearly 5,000 films, videos, and digital mediaworks by Asian international and Asian American artists. This year's LAAPFF presented a line-up of nearly 200 feature-length and short films, filmmaker panels, special presentations, parties, and more. The DGA is a long-time sponsor of the festival.
