Robin Swicord on Wakefield

Robin Swicord discusses Wakefield

June 4, 2017 A DGA Q&A in Los Angeles

A man’s breakdown leads him into a weird self-imposed exile in Director Robin Swicord’s new drama, Wakefield.

Adapted from a short story by E.L. Doctorow, Swicord’s film tells the story of Howard Wakefield (Bryan Cranston), a lawyer with a loving wife (Jennifer Garner) and family in a comfortable home in the suburbs. Outwardly successful and happy, his inner feelings of suffocation lead Howard to snap and disappear without a trace. Hiding in his own garage attic, he survives by scavenging at night and secretly observes the lives of his wife and children and neighbors.

Following the DGA membership screening in Los Angeles on June 4, Swicord sat down with Director Lesli Linka Glatter (Homeland), to discuss the making of Wakefield.

In addition to Wakefield, Swicord’s credits include the feature film The Jane Austen Book Club and the short film The Red Coat. Swicord has been a DGA member since 2006.
