WSC Hosts Prep Workshop

WSC Hosts Prep Workshop

October 10, 2017 A Women's Steering Committee Event

On October 10, the DGA Women’s Steering Committee (WSC) hosted the workshop, Prep: How to Break it Down. Led by Director/WSC Co-Chair Mary Lou Belli (Pitch, Famous in Love), the workshop covered the preparation required to take an episodic script from page to screen.

Approximately 40 DGA members gathered in the Atrium of the Guild’s Los Angeles headquarters where they explored the process of episodic television lead by Belli. Prior to the workshop, the participants were required to read a sample script from an episode of NCIS: New Orleans Belli had recently directed and use that as a basis to prepare boards for the story. In the classroom setting, they broke down the script, delved into casting, locations, director's responsibilities and practiced shot listing for specific scenes. Then they watched those same scenes from Belli’s completed episode to see how it all turned out.
