Angelina Jolie: Unbroken

December 3, 2014 A DGA Q&A in New York

In Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken, an Olympic track star survives a plane crash at sea followed by years as a POW in a Japanese prison camp.

Based on Laura Hillenbrand’s book Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption, Jolie’s film tells the true story of World War II hero and Olympic athlete Louis Zamperini, who spent 47 days adrift on a raft in the middle of the Pacific following a plane crash during WWII. After being captured by the Japanese navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp he and his compatriots have to try to maintain their spirit and survive the tortures of a brutal camp guard.

Following the DGA membership screening in New York on December 3, Jolie spoke about the making of the film in a conversation with Director Darren Aronofsky (Noah).

In addition to Unbroken, Jolie’s filmography includes the feature film In the Land of Blood and Honey and the documentary A Place in Time. She joined the DGA in 2013.
