How to Make Money Distributing Your Feature Film

July 15, 2014 A Latino Committee Discussion

DGA members received information on how to overcome the various challenges filmmakers may face when looking to distribute their film when the DGA Latino Committee hosted the discussion Profiting in The New Abnormal: How to Make Money Distributing Your Feature Film, following their regular monthly meeting at DGA Headquarters in Los Angeles on July 15.

Chris Charalambous, the Head of Acquisitions at Freestyle Releasing and Freestyle Digital Media, spoke to the attendees about the various film distribution methods  available for filmmakers on multiple platforms, how to overcome their pitfalls, and demonstrated ways to use digital platforms to profit from distributing feature content. Following the discussion, Charalambous answered questions from the audience.

A 13-year veteran of the motion picture industry Charalambous has a strong understanding of the current distribution landscape. In his current position at Freestyle, he identifies, negotiates and acquires titles for their direct distribution pipeline to all outlets including theatrical, digital media and ancillaries. He also lectures on various topics in the film industry at institutions such as UCLA Film School, USC Film School, and Dodge College of Film and Media Arts at Chapman University, and serves on assorted panels for professional industry organizations, festivals and markets in the US and internationally.
