SFCC Hosts 2014 Annual General Membership Meeting

May 17, 2014 A San Francisco Coordinating Committee Event:

The DGA’s San Francisco Coordinating Committee (SFCC) welcomed DGA members from all categories to their Annual General Membership Meeting and Reception on May 17. Bay Area Guild members assembled at San Francisco's Concordia-Argonaut Club, where SFCC Chair John Morse welcomed the attendees and DGA National Board Member and Western AD/UPM Council Member Liz Ryan delivered the State-of-the-Guild report.

Ryan spoke about a number of subjects including: what the Guild achieved in the recent negotiations, the Guild's efforts to increase contract enforcement, the outlook for local production and the legislative push for an enhanced and expanded production tax incentive program in California. Ryan encouraged the attendees to become more involved in the latter, citing the examples of SFCC members who have spoken at California Assembly Committee meetings and met with state legislators in an effort to help them understand that an effective production incentive is critical to helping keep the jobs generated by film and television production all over California. She also suggested that members attend the upcoming production incentive rally scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 14 at the Fairmont Hotel.

DGA Assistant Executive Director Lisa Layer, who followed with a report from the national office, echoed Ryan's encouragement for local member involvement in the incentive. SFCC Treasurer Zach Keyworth gave the treasury report and there were also reports from SFCC Production Info and News Sub-Committee Chair Frank Simeone, who read the list detailing the productions occurring in the Bay Area; a report on the Committee’s plans for the upcoming Annual Networking Mixer from Carolina Zorilla de San Martin; and a report from Screening Sub-Committee Chair Frank Zamacona.

The official business concluded with the nomination of candidates for the SFCC Executive Committee, and the announcement that the new slate of SFCC officers will be elected until at the upcoming meeting on June 18.
