Female and minority Associate Directors and Stage Managers had the opportunity to meet with network television executives when the DGA Eastern Diversity Steering Committee (EDSC) hosted the mixer: Meet the Networks: An Associate Director & Stage Manager Diversity Event.
Held in the DGA’s New York offices on November 21, this event featured a discussion panel with Michael Haynes of WCBS, Matty Hetzel of CBS Sports, and Karen Horne of NBC Universal in a conversation moderated by Stage Manager Keith Greer.
After the panel discussion about the current job market and what members can do to make themselves more viable as candidates, the AD/SM attendees were able to meet and mingle with the participating executives during an informal cocktail reception. This event was the second Meet the Networks mixer held by the Committee. The previous event led to job opportunities in live and tape television projects in the areas of news, sports, operations, local, and several other types of programs for female and minority DGA members.
The EDSC represents the concerns of members of African, Asian, Native American, Arab-Middle Eastern or Latino descent residing in the East. Committed to improving employment opportunities, working conditions and skills of ethnically diverse members, the EDSC sponsors workshops, seminars, and networking events to showcase their talents, recognize their contributions, and increase their visibility in the industry. The Committee is co-chaired by Jason Hightower, Rebecca Strickland and Joyce Thomas.
