Dan Gilroy: Nightcrawler

November 2, 2014 A DGA Q&A in New York

Set in the nocturnal underbelly of contemporary Los Angeles, Director Dan Gilroy’s Nightcrawler follows the adventures of Lou (Jake Gyllenhaal), a driven young man who is desperate for work until he discovers he has a talent for nightcrawling –– taking videos of crimes, crashes, fires and murders to sell to news outlets. As he is pulled deeper into this seamy world, his success begins to undercut his humanity and the lines begin to blur between being a dedicated recorder of criminal mayhem and being a part the story.

Following the DGA membership screening in New York on November 2, Gilroy spoke about the making of the film in a conversation with his brother, Director Tony Gilroy (The Bourne Legacy).

Nightcrawler is Gilroy’s debut feature film. He joined the DGA in 2013.
