Tom Hooper: Les Misérables

December 12, 2012 Director Q&As in Los Angeles and New York

Victor Hugo’s classic novel of life on the edge of revolutionary France, Les Misérables, is brought to the big screen as a musical by 2010 DGA Award-winning director Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech). In the film, fugitive Jean Valjean has his life changed forever when he agrees to care for factory worker Fantine's daughter, Cosette while continuing to elude the ruthless policeman Javert, who has been hunted for decades. Hooper discussed the challenges making of the a musical where all the principles did their own singing with DGA President Taylor Hackford (Love Ranch), who moderated the discussion following the December 8 Los Angeles DGA membership screening, and director Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan) who moderated the conversation after the December 12 screening in New York.
