Ben Lewin: The Sessions

The delicate subject of sex and the handicapped is examined in director Ben Lewin’s (Paperback Romance) new feature The Sessions. The film tells the true story of how Mark O’Brien (John Hawkes), a polio victim who lived most of his life in an iron lung, teamed up with a sex surrogate (Helen Hunt) to lose his virginity before his “expiration date.” Lewin spoke about how he handled such sensitive subjects with tenderness and humor following the DGA membership screening in Los Angeles on November 11. Director Howard Deutch (Warehouse 13) served as moderator.
