Ang Lee: Life of Pi

The challenges of bringing to the screen Yann Martel’s best-selling novel‑ a book that was long considered impossible adapt ‑ were discussed when two-time DGA Award-winning director Ang Lee (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon; Brokeback Mountain) spoke about his new feature Life of Pi following the DGA membership screening in Los Angeles. In the film, a young survivor of a sea disaster finds himself adrift in the Pacific Ocean on a 26-foot lifeboat with the only other castaways: a zebra, a hyena, an orangutan and a 450-pound Bengal tiger. Lee spoke about how he brought the book to life with director Jon Chu (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) who moderated the discussion sponsored by the DGA Asian American Committee on November 18.
