Jean-Marc Vallée: Wild

December 6, 2014 A DGA Q&A in Los Angeles

In order to recover from recent catastrophes, a woman embarks on a solo hike of over a thousand miles in Director Jean-Marc Vallée’s new feature Wild.

Based on Cheryl Strayed’s memoir Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail, Vallée’s film recounts the true story of how Strayed – driven by the dissolution of her marriage, the death of her mother and a descent into self-destructive behavior – decides to heal herself by hiking the 1,100 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail, alone with absolutely no experience.

Following the DGA membership screening in Los Angeles on December 6, Vallée spoke about the making of the film in a conversation with Director Jason Reitman (Men, Women & Children).

In addition to Wild, Vallée’s filmography includes the feature films Dallas Buyers Club, Café de Flore, The Young Victoria, C.R.A.Z.Y., Loser Love, Los Locos, and Liste noire; and episodes of the television series The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne and Strangers. Vallée has been a member of the DGA since 1996.
